Wilson casts away Bendigo's unbeaten run
Perth Lynx edge out Bendigo Spirit 71-68 in thrilling WNBL clash

It's over and Perth got their revenge. Bendigo's unbeaten run to start the WNBL 2024-25 ended at nine as Lynx star Ally Wilson dropped 20 points in Perth's 71-68 (Game Centre) road win against Bendigo Spirit in Bendigo on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Bendigo blew a seven-point lead twice in the fourth quarter, leading 59-52 with eight minutes to go and 62-55 with 5:41 mins to go. But Wilson hit a pair of threes and deep two-point step back from the corner, right in Veronica Burton's face, down the stretch to put Perth in front 68-66. Her second three tied the ball game at 66. She then delivered an on-the-button assist to big Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard right at the rim to put Perth up four — 70-66 — with 1:52 to go.
Abbey Wehrung had an assist to Marianna Tolo to with 13.7 seconds left after stealing the ball from Wilson to bring the ball game to within two but Bendigo had to foul to stop the clock. Wilson iced the game with a the second of two free throws with under two seconds to go.
Streak over. Perth avenged its 76-66 home court loss to the Spirit (Game Centre) on Thursday, December 5, 2024 in Round Six.
Wilson's sharp-shooting leads Perth to victory
Ally Wilson was the star of the night, shooting an impressive 46.7% from the field and connecting on 4 -from-8 attempts from beyond the arc. Her 20-point haul was instrumental in Perth's success, with the guard also contributing five rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes.
The victory improves Perth's record to 8-3 for the season, solidifying their position in the top two of the WNBL standings. Meanwhile, Bendigo Spirit's loss drops them to a 9-1 record
Bendigo's valiant effort falls short
Despite the loss, Bendigo Spirit's Kelsey Griffin's had impressive double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds. Marianna Tolo also had a strong showing with 16 points on efficient 72.7% shooting from the field.
The Spirit had 10 blocks but shot just 39.4% from the field and 31.6% from three-point range.

Bendigo is back on the road with a clash against 3-7 Southside Flyers (Game Centre) in Melbourne on Sunday, December 22, 2024 in a continuation of Round 8 while Perth are back at home to face 4-5 Geelong United (Game Centre) on Monday, December 23, 2024 in the last game of the round.
