Sydney Flames qualify for WNBL25 finals with crucial win against Capitals

Sydney Flames torched the UC Capitals 86-71 in Canberra a on Sunday, February 9, 2025 in a stunning display of three-point prowess in round 15 of WNBL25.

The win qualified the Flames for the finals for the first time in seven years,.

The Flames have two games in round 16, while the Capitals host Bendigo Spirit at home in their last game. Form suggests the Capitals will struggle to beat the ladder leaders, which means Sydney is in.

Isabella Bracatisiano caught fire from beyond the arc, draining 8-from-12 three-pointers to lead all scorers with 26 points as the Flames pulled away in the second half.

The match remained tight through two quarters, with the Capitals clinging to a slim 38-37 lead at halftime behind strong interior play from Nyadiew Puoch.

UC tried to claw back in the fourth, but Sydney's outside shooting proved too much to overcome. The Flames connected on 15-from-35 attempts from deep (42.9%) compared to just 8 of 30 (26.7%) for the Capitals. That 21-point differential from beyond the arc ultimately decided the contest.

While Bracatisiano stole the show, she had plenty of help from her teammates.

Taylor finished with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Shaneice Swain stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

For the Capitals, Puoch led the way with 21 points on efficient 8-from-9 shooting, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Sydney's perimeter onslaught.
