Perth Lynx smash Geelong United by 25 in WNBL Round 8
- Perth Lynx dominated Geelong United, winning 96-71 in commanding fashion
- Ally Wilson orchestrated Perth's attack, dishing nine assists and scoring 12
- Anneli Maley excelled with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and leadership
Perth Lynx routed the Geelong United 96-71 at home (Game Centre) in a dominant display of offensive firepower in Round 8 of the WNBL on Sunday, December 23, 2024 in Perth.
The Lynx unleashed a barrage of scoring, with five players reaching double figures in a comprehensive victory that solidified their second position on the WNBL ladder.
From the opening tip, Perth seized control with their up-tempo attack and stifling defence. Ally Wilson orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out nine assists while adding 12 points of her own. The Lynx built a commanding 52-35 halftime lead and never looked back, extending the margin in the second half.
Geelong struggled to find their rhythm all night, shooting a just 38.5% from the field compared to Perth's efficient 48%.
The visitors were led by Keely Froling's 17 points, but lacked the firepower to keep pace with the high-octane Lynx attack. Perth's bench proved to be the x-factor, outscoring Geelong's reserves 45-14 in a telling disparity.
The numbers tell the tale of Perth's dominance. They outscored Geelong 50-32 in the paint, generated 35 points off turnovers to Geelong's 13, and won the fast break battle 14-7. The Lynx's ball movement was on full display as they racked up 23 assists to Geelong's 16.
WNBA and Australian Opals star Amy Atwell led all scorers with 19 points, including four three-pointers, as she continues her breakout season for Perth. But it was the all-around performance of Anneli Maley that anchored the Lynx's eighth win of the second and second on the bounce.
Maley stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 assists in a commanding double-double performance.
The win cements Perth's status as one of the teams to beat, especially after rolling the then unbeaten Bendigo Spirit (Game Centre) on December 19, 2024. Bendigo lost its next contest to the Southside Flyers (Game Centre) on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
They'll look to continue their hot streak on the road against the UC Capitals (Game Centre) on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
For Geelong, now sitting at 4-7, they'll aim to regroup on the road against 6-4 Townsville Fire (Game Centre) as they fight to stay in playoff contention.
