Australian point guard Josh Giddey won the Zach LaVine trade between the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings in early February.
Arguably, there is no one playing better since the trade deadline than the 21-year-old Melbourne-born point guard.
His numbers are up across the board now that LaVine is on the West Coast.
Giddey is averaging 19.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists in the past nine games up from 16ppg, 7.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists prior to the trade.
Giddey is shooting an exceptional 52.4% from three, 1.6 more free throws per game and attempting more shots per game in the same amount of minutes.
His productivity is at an All-Star level. He flirted with triple doubles in five straight games from February 22 before exploding for 26 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists against Miami on March 8 for the Bulls, continuing to showcase his skills despite his team's mediocre record in the Eastern Conference.
In the 114-109 win over the Heat, Gidder shot 9-from-15 from the field and 3-from-4 from the three-point line.
Giddey was traded to the Bulls at the started of the 2024-25 season where LaVine was the primary option. It took a while for him to settle in and his numbers were solid — 16-7-6 — justifying the move but since the trade Giddey has been on a tear.
All of his usage numbers are up except his field goal and free throw percentages. Giddey is earning $8.3 million in 2024-25 and if he continues on this trajectory can expect a hefty bump in his next contract.
With Giddey and Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels, who is leading the league in steals and is a contender for NBA Defensive Player of the Year, developing an such an exponential rate, the Boomers backcourt, if they stay healthy, is going to be right there with the best in the world.
