Josh gets Giddey with it in loss to Suns
The Australian star guard's stock continues to rise after the trade deadline.
- Josh Giddey continues to lead from the front with Chicago with a 24-point, 10-assist and eight-rebound performance
- Duop Reath earned playing time in Portland's demolition of the Charlotte Hornets
- Fellow big man Jock Landale and the Houston Rockets let a three-quarter time lead slip against Utah
Josh Giddey's purple patch of form post the trade deadline has continued despite his Chicago Bulls going down to the Phoenix Suns 121-117 at the United Center thanks to 81 points combined from Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal.
Giddey recorded 24 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, three steals and one block in 35 minutes against the Suns, just days after he almost led the Bulls to an overtime win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden
Chicago started strong, taking a 30-20 lead after the first quarter but the Suns responded emphatically in the second, outscoring the Bulls 40-28 to take a narrow 60-58 lead into halftime. The third quarter saw both teams trading blows, with the Suns extending their advantage to 93-90 with Phoenix holding off a late surge from the home team.
A Booker clutch three-pointer with 3:45 left in the game proved pivotal, extending the Suns' lead to seven points and silencing the United Center crowd. The Bulls made a final push, cutting the deficit to two points with 30 seconds left but Beal's calm free-throw shooting in the closing moments sealed the win for Phoenix.
Booker's efficient 29-point performance on 10-of-20 shooting, including four three-pointers, was the driving force behind the Suns' win while Kevin Durant also had a significant impact, contributing 27 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 9-of-15 from the field.
For the Bulls, Giddey's near triple-double wasn't enough to overcome the Suns but he was supported by Coby White, who added 20 points and eight assists, while Nikola Vucevic posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The victory improves the Phoenix Suns' record to 27-29, keeping them in the hunt for a play-in tournament spot in the competitive Western Conference while the loss drops the Bulls to 22-35, as they remain in 10th spot in the Eastern Conference.
Charlotte Hornets @ Portland Trailblazers
Aussie big man Duop Reath hit the court for 11 minutes as the Portland Trailblazers demolished Boomers teammate Josh Green and the Charlotte Hornets 141-88 at the Moda Center.
In his court time, Reath scored eight points, shooting 4-6 from the field, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists while Green had four points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 22 minutes for the Hornets.
Matisse Thybulle received a DNP Coach's Decision for Portland.
Houston Rockets @ Utah Jazz
Jock Landale and the Houston Rockets were dominated in a fourth-quarter comeback at the Delta Center with the Utah Jazz storming home to record a 124-115 victory.
Landale, who has struggled to gain consistent minutes with the Rockets, played 11 minutes and scored four points while grabbing one rebound and recording one assist.
Keyonte George was the leading scorer for the Jazz with 30.
