How Australians performed in the NBA on February 4, 2025

  • Dyson Daniels is leading the NBA in steals per game
  • Jock Landale wasn't with the Houston Rockets in New York
  • OKC guard Alex Ducas rips down seven rebounds

Australian guard Dyson Daniels logged a team-high 37 minutes and snatched four more steals as the Atlanta Hawks edged out the Detroit Pistons 132-130 on Tuesday. February 4, 2025 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Daniels, 21, is just getting better and better. He went 6-from-10 from the field, including 1-from-1 from three to finish with 19 points, six rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocks.

The victory improved Atlanta's record to 23-27, while Detroit fell to 25-25, tightening the race for the final play-in tournament spots in the East.

For the Hawks, the win was particularly significant as they continue to fight their way back into postseason contention after a sluggish start to the season.

Statistically, the game was remarkably even, with both teams shooting over 51% from the field. The difference ultimately came down to Atlanta's superior three-point shooting (43.2% to Detroit's 33.3%) and their ability to capitalise on Pistons turnovers, scoring 22 points off 14 Detroit miscues.

Trae Young was the standout performer for the Hawks, finishing with a game-high 34 points and nine assists. The All-Star guard was particularly effective from beyond the arc, connecting on 4-from-8 attempts, and showed his trademark clutch gene by sinking 12-of-14 free throws.

For Detroit, Cade Cunningham put forth a valiant effort in defeat, notching a triple-double with 30 points, 14 assists, and 6 rebounds. The young point guard's development has been a bright spot for the Pistons this season, but his individual brilliance wasn't quite enough to overcome Atlanta's balanced attack.

Washington Wizards @ Charlotte Hornets

Australian Boomers guard Josh Green continues to be rock solid on the defensive end for the Charlotte Hornets.

Green is playing big minutes for the Hornets and it was the same again against the Washington Wizards in their disappointing 124-114 loss to the struggling Washington Wizards.

He played 37 minutes, scored 11 points on 4-from-7 from the field, grabbed three rebounds, had an assist and two steals and was +10.

Houston Rockets @ New York Knicks

Australian centre Jock Landale was listed "DNP - not with the team" as the Rockets fell 124-118 to the New York Knicks.

Landale has missed several games this season for what has been described as personal reasons.

Sacramento Kings @ Minnesota Timberwolves

Australian veteran Joe Ingles played less than a minute in the Kings' 116-114 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Ingles' box score was empty.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Australian rookie guard Alex Ducas was all over the boards in the Thunder's blow-out 125-96 win against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Ducas registered 14 minutes and ripped down SEVEN rebounds. He struggled from the field, going just 1-from-6, finishing with two points.

Indiana Pacers @ Utah Jazz

Australian forward Johnny Furphy was a DNP-coach's decision in the Pacers 112-111 win against the Utah Jazz.

It was Utah's first game since trading Patty Mills to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Phoenix Suns @ Portland Trail Blazers

Australian centre Duop Reath didn't suit up for the Blazers in their 121-119 win against the Phoenix Suns.

Boomers teammate Matisse Thybulle is still out injured.
