  • Perth Lynx edge out Sydney Flames 84-78 in thrilling NBL clash
  • Laeticia Amihere dominates with 28 points for Lynx
  • Shaneice Swain shines for Flames with 26 points, including 8 three-pointers

The Perth Lynx secured a hard-fought 84-78 victory (Game Centre) against the Sydney Flames in a nail-biting round four WNBL encounter at Perth Arena on Saturday, November 23, 204.

Sydney dominated from the opening tip, up 29-19 after one, 54-43 at the half but a 15-0 run to start the second half put the Lynx up 58-54 in less than five minutes. With scores level at 64 at the end of the period, Stephanie Gorman and Cayla George exchanged threes, Gorman hit another and Laeticia Amihere made a lay-up and Anneli Maley a jump shot to stretch the lead to seven — 75-67 — with 6:37 left.

The Flames got within three with five minutes to go but that's the closet the road team got.

Amihere Leads Lynx to Big Win

Atlanta Dream star Laeticia Amihere put on a masterclass for the Perth Lynx, scoring a game-high 28 points, grabbing four boards and four assists.

The dynamic forward shot an impressive 61.1% from the field, proving almost unstoppable in the paint.

The Lynx's balanced had four players in double figures, with Ally Wilson contributing 19 points and Stephanie Gorman adding 12 points and nine rebounds. Anneli Maley recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, showcasing the team's depth and versatility.

Swain's Sharpshooting Not Enough for Flames

Despite the loss, Sydney Flames' Shaneice Swain put on a shooting clinic, draining eight three-pointers en route to a team-high 26 points. Swain's long-range efficiency kept the Flames within striking distance throughout the contest. She shot 8-for-17 from three.

Veteran WNBA and Opals centre Cayla George also impressed with a solid double-double, tallying 19 points and 16 rebounds, with four assists.

The Flames struggled with ball security, committing 20 turnovers compared to the Lynx's 8. This discrepancy proved costly, as Perth capitalised with 18 points off turnovers.

Season Implications and Looking Ahead

With this victory, Perth's second on the bounce, improve their season record to 3-1, solidifying their position in the top two. The Sydney Flames drop to 1-3.

The Lynx host the Townsville Fire (Game Centre) on Wednesday, November 27, while the Flames return home to face Geelong United (Game Centre) on Saturday November 30, 2024.
