Turner has 18 points, 19 rebounds in 6-point loss
Southside and Adelaide's disappointing WNBL25 seasons almost over
- Southside Flyers title defense is over. They're in a battle for the wooden spoon
- Adelaide Lightning will not make the WNBL25 playoffs with one round to go
- Adelaide's Brianna Turner had 18 points and 19 rebounds in 6-point loss
In a nail-biting clash at the State Basketball Centre, the Southside Flyers edged out the Adelaide Lightning 84-78 in a match that went down to the wire in round 15 of WNBL25 on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
With both teams neck and neck throughout, it was the Flyers' sharpshooting in the final quarter that sealed the deal, leaving the Lightning to rue missed opportunities.
The game was a true test of mettle for both sides, with the lead changing hands multiple times.
The Flyers, buoyed by their home crowd, started strong, but Adelaide's resilience saw them claw back into contention.
Adelaide's Brianna Turner was a force to be reckoned with, dominating the boards with an impressive 19 rebounds.
However, the Flyers' balanced attack proved too much to handle. Carley Ernst led the charge with 16 points, while Loughridge and Maddi Rocci contributed 15 and 14 points respectively, showcasing the team's depth.
The statistics tell a tale of a closely fought battle. The Flyers' 43.5% field goal percentage was just under Adelaide's 46.8%, but it was their prowess from beyond the arc that made the difference. Southside netted 10 three-pointers to Adelaide's seven, with Loughridge's 3-from-4 performance from downtown proving particularly decisive.
Dallas Loughridge emerged as the standout performer for the Flyers. Her 15 points on 60% shooting, including a scorching 75% from three-point range, were complemented by three rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
For Adelaide, Brianna Turner's herculean effort deserves special mention. Her double-double of 18 points and 19 rebounds, along with three steals and two blocks, kept the Lightning in the hunt until the final buzzer. Despite the loss, her performance underlined her status as one of the league's elite players.
