Giddey an assist shy of another triple double

How Australians performed in the NBA on January 21, 2025
- Josh Giddey responds with near triple-double
- Josh Green goes up against Australian-born Kyrie Irving
- Dyson Daniels snatches three more steals
Josh Giddey, ladies and gentlemen. The day after a day to forget, Giddey produced an All-Star performance, narrowly missing a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists as the Chicago Bulls rolled over the top of the Los Angeles Clippers 112-99 in Los Angeles.
Zach LaVine's 35-point outburst, including a clutch 5-from-12 performance from beyond the arc, proved too much for a Clippers squad that struggled to find their rhythm after beating the Los Angeles Lakers the day before.
The Bulls, who entered the game at 18-25, weathered an early Clippers surge and trailed 50-48 at halftime.

But Chicago exploded for 36 points in the third quarter, flipping the script and seizing control of the game. The visitors' suffocating defence held the typically potent Clippers offence to just 16 points in that pivotal period, creating a deficit from which Los Angeles never recovered.
The statistics tell a tale of two vastly different shooting nights. While the Bulls connected on a decent 32.6% of their three-point attempts, the Clippers endured a woeful evening from long range, managing a just 21.4%.
For the Clippers, Norman Powell's 27-point effort off the bench was a silver lining in an otherwise forgettable team performance.
James Harden, despite dishing out 10 assists, struggled to find his shooting touch, going 5-from-17 from the field and 3-from-13 from three-point territory. The absence of Kawhi Leonard (load management) and Paul George (injured), was keenly felt as the Clippers lacked their usual offensive punch.
Dallas Mavericks @ Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte's Australian defensive specialist Josh Green had his hands full against the Dallas Mavericks' all-world backcourt of Melbourne-born Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson but he more than held his own, helping the the home team Hornets edge out the visitors 110-105.
Green logged 27 minutes, grabbed five boards, dished two assists and had two steals but went 1-from-6 from the field, including 0-from-4 from three to finish with four points. But, the reality is, Charlotte needs the 1.96m guard's length on the defensive end to support former NBL Next Star LaMelo Ball who shoots the ball at a high clip. Ball finished with 23 points on 8-from-21 from the field, going 5-from-10 from three.
The Hornets are 11-28 while the Mavs drop to 23-20.

Atlanta Hawks @ New York Knicks
NBA steal leader Dyson Daniel kept pace with his average, snatching three against the New York Knicks in Atlanta's 119-100 loss at Madison Square Garden.
The Australian guard is leading the league with 3.1 steals per game and is on track to claim the crown and NBA All-Defensive First Team honours.
Daniels finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and block. He fouled out.
Utah Jazz @ New Orleans Pelicans
Australian guard Patty Mills is working his way back into more minutes for the Utah Jazz. He clocked 18 in Utah's 123-119 loss to the Pelicans in New Orleans.
His box score is a tough read, though, shooting 1-from-3 from the field, all three point attempts. The 36-year-old ripped down four boards and had a steal.
