Andrew Bogut, NBA champion and triple Olympian, will be inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025 in a ceremony in Bahrain this May.

A career of international excellence

Bogut's induction recognises his significant contributions to Australian basketball on the global stage. The 40-year-old Melbourne native made his FIBA debut at the 2003 Under-19 World Cup, where he led Australia to gold and earned tournament MVP honours.

He went on to represent the Boomers in three Olympics (2004, 2008, 2016) and two FIBA World Cups (2006, 2019), totalling 33 appearances for the national team.

“I got a random text from Jason Smith (EGM of High Performance at Basketball Australia) saying that FIBA are trying to get a hold of you," Bogut told Basketball Australia.

"So my instant thoughts were, ‘oh ****, what have I done?’. But I finally connected with FIBA and yeah, I mean, it was just a pleasant surprise and I’m looking forward to the announcement and seeing it all unfold,” said Bogut.

"It seems like an eternity since my playing career. I've been retired around five years.

"Your career goes so quick and then the post career slows down a bit when you start to unwind and get involved in different things, so yeah, seems like an eternity ago.

"It is kind of strange being removed from playing only a little while ago to being honoured.

I guess for myself, getting Australia into a position where it is now, as a top five ranked team in the world. That's what I’m really proud of.

From NBA success to FIBA recognition

Bogut's basketball journey included 14 seasons in the NBA, where he was the first Australian selected as the No.1 overall draft pick in 2005. He played 682 games for multiple teams, including winning an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015.

His impact on both ends of the court and his role in elevating Australian basketball's global standing have now earned him a place among the sport's elite. Bogut joins fellow Australians Penny Taylor, Robyn Maher, Tom Maher, Michele Timms, Jan Stirling, Andrew Gaze, Lindsay Gaze, and Al Ramsay in the FIBA Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2025 also includes international stars Pau Gasol, Dawn Staley, and legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski, highlighting the caliber of Bogut's company in this year's induction group.
