Armstrong arm's length from the great Steph Curry
Taran Armstrong talks about NBA life after joining the Golden State Warriors.
- Taran Armstrong signed a two-way deal with the Golden State Warriors in late February
- He averaged 17.1 points, 4.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds for Cairns this past NBL season
- Has a locker "right across" from NBA legend Stephen Curry
A breakout NBL season, a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors and now a locker right across from the greatest shooter who's ever lived in Stephen Curry.
The past year has been one Tasmania's own Taran Armstrong will never forget and one he's still coming to terms with.
"Not really, not for me personally," Armstrong said in a press conference earlier in the week when asked if how far his career had progressed had sunk in.
"It's a weird dynamic of you can't be too starstruck because you're in the environment. You know, it's like Steph's locker is right across from mine and stuff like that, you have to get used to it because you have to earn your spot and feel like you belong.
"There's that part but then there's another part where I know I've had so much support back home... my family, Tasmania as a whole, my friend group, all really great people that are super excited to see me do well.
"Anytime I'm talking to them and just about little things that happen here, they're just like 'that's crazy'. It's super cool to be able to share that with a lot of people back home."
The 23-year-old, who had a successful college career at California Baptist University, had an injury interrupted rookie season in the NBL with the Cairns Taipans before exploding this past season, averaging 17.1 points, 4.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting a career-high from the three-point line.
Armstrong is a free agent in the NBL with rumours swirling of a return to his hometown with the JackJumpers but if he continues to perform in the G-League with the Santa Cruz Warriors and even in the NBA, when he gets an opporutnity, we may not see him back on Australian shores.
