Aggressive Lynx go to the line 30 times, make 25 to secure solid road win

  • Perth shores up second on the WNBL25 ladder, move to 14-4
  • Sydney falls into the middle of fourth-placed congestion
  • Miela Sowah and Laeticia Amihere led the Lynx to 22-point win

Perth Lynx outgunned the Sydney Flames 105-83 (Game Centre) at the Quaycentre on Saturday, January 25, 2025 in round 13 of the WNBL.

The Lynx's sharpshooting and relentless defence proved too much for the visitors, as Perth solidified their position atop the WNBL ladder with their tenth consecutive victory.

The match began as a tightly contested affair, with both teams trading baskets in the opening quarter.

Sydney's Cayla George and Celeste Taylor kept the Flames within striking distance early, but it was the Lynx who seized control in the second period, led by the dynamic duo of Miela Sowah and Laeticia Amihere.

Sowah was simply unstoppable from beyond the arc, draining five of her eight three-point attempts en route to a game-high 23 points. Amihere took full advantage, bullying her way to 20 points and eight rebounds

The Lynx's suffocating defence proved to be the difference-maker, as they forced Sydney into a game-breaking 24 turnovers. Ally Wilson was particularly disruptive, snatching five steals to go along with her 17 points and five assists.

The Flames struggled to find any rhythm offensively, with only Celeste Taylor (18 points) and Cayla George (17 points) reaching double figures.

Statistically, the Lynx's dominance was evident across the board. They outshot the Flames from the field (41.3% to 47.1%), from three-point range (35% to 41.4%), and most tellingly, from the free-throw line.

Perth's aggressiveness in attacking the basket resulted in 30 free throw attempts, of which they converted 25 (83.3%). In contrast, Sydney managed just 10 attempts from the charity stripe.

The loss drops Sydney to 6-11 on the season, leaving them precariously placed in the playoff race.

For Perth, they are 14-11 and rock-solid in second behind the streaking Bendigo Spirit at 16-2.
