Come on, Chris Goulding. Fair Dinkum. The Melbourne United guard came off a high pick on a sidelines out of bounds play with four seconds to go, slipped Johan Bolden for a split second and hit a 28-foot rainbow three, falling away, to beat the New Zealand Breakers 91-89 (Game Centre) at TSB Stadium in New Zealand on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Fair Dinkum.
Just seconds before Matt Mooney hit what would have been the game-winner, a relocation three that hit nothing but the back rim to put the Breakers up 89-88.
United captain Chris Goulding hit 10 three-pointers en route to a game-high 42 points. He went 13-from-24 from the field, and 10-from-19 from three.
The Breakers were up 71-62 heading into the final quarter, but United stuck tough.
Mooney was outstanding for the Breakers, fighting for pride and their ninth win. He finished with 19 points on 6-from-10 from the field.
United also got key contributions from their frontcourt. Jack White pulled down 13 rebounds to go with eight points, helping Melbourne win the battle on the boards 39-38. Matthew Dellavedova orchestrated the offense with six assists to with eight points.
Goulding almost scored half of United's points.
The win was crucial for United. It kept the Melbourne side in second at 14-9.
