'Good reason' Taran's NBL career may be over
Armstrong likely to play in the US next season
Cairns Taipans coach Adam Forde has confirmed he is fielding significant NBA interest for young NBL guard Taran Armstrong, reports Code Sports Basketball reporter Matt Logue.
Armstrong is having another standout season, and showed experience beyond his year's in Sunday’s two-point loss to the Sydney Kings.
The Burnie-born 22-year-old dropped 22 points against the Kings, including four of seven from the two-point range (57%).
“I never want to be someone that impacts someone’s opportunity and I’m fielding a lot of phone calls about two-way (NBA/G League contracts) and what his (Taran’s) work ethic is like and what he is like as a teammate,” Forde said.
“There is an exciting prospect that we don’t see him next season and for a great reason.”
Armstrong’s polished performance came in a week when he signed with Lighthouse Sports under Australian agent Daniel Moldovan.

Armstrong went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft and returned to the Taipans for NBL25.
He attended California Baptist between 2021-2023 where he started 58 of 59 games. Armstrong led the Lancers in both scoring and assists in both season.
Armstrong played for championship-winning Australian team at the FIBA Under-17 Oceania Championship as well as at the 2021 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, 2022 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers, and 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
