Lynx's dynamic duo of Ally Wilson and Miela Sowah combined for 46 points in Perth's tough 86-78 win against Southside Flyers in WNBL25 round 12 on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
The match began as a tightly contested affair, with both teams trading baskets in the opening quarter. However, the Flyers put it to Lynx, leading 63-55 with a minute to go in third. But the Lynx who gradually seized control, thanks in large part to Wilson's scoring and Anneli Maley's dominant presence on the glass.
The Flyers, led by the energetic Naz Hillmon, refused to back down, keeping the game within reach throughout the first half.
The Flyers, despite valiant efforts from Maddi Rocci and Alice Kunek, struggled to contain Perth's fourth quarter comeback.
The statistics tell the tale of a closely fought battle. Both teams shot similarly from the field, with the Lynx hitting 40.5% of their attempts compared to the Flyers' 40.6%. The key difference came from beyond the arc, where Perth's 10 three-pointers trumped Southside's nine, and at the charity stripe, where the Lynx's 88.9% success rate proved crucial down the stretch.
Ally Wilson was the standout performer for Perth, pouring in a game-high 27 points on an efficient 11-from-22 shooting, including three triples. Her ability to create her own shot and score in bunches proved instrumental in the Lynx's victory.
Equally impressive was the performance of Anneli Maley, who dominated the rebounding battle with a staggering 22 boards, including nine on the offensive end. Her relentless work on the glass provided the Lynx with numerous second-chance opportunities and limited the Flyers' possessions.
For the Flyers, Naz Hillmon put forth a valiant effort, recording a near double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds. Her physicality in the paint kept Southside within striking distance, but ultimately it wasn't enough to overcome Perth's balanced attack.
