Playing Style

Catchings was the consummate two-way player, able to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she was a versatile scorer who could drive to the basket, hit mid-range jumpers and knock down threes. Her passing and court vision allowed her to create for teammates as well.

Defensively, Catchings was in a class of her own. Her combination of strength, quickness and anticipation made her a nightmare for opponents. She could lock down perimeter players and battle in the post, often guarding multiple positions in a single game. Her 5 Defensive Player of the Year awards are tied for the most in WNBA history.
