January 12: Not a great day for Aussies in the NBA

  • Daniels and Landale snowed out in Atlanta
  • Josh Green's game postponed because of LA wildfires
  • Patty Mills struggled from the field

Phoenix superstar Devin Booker torched the Utah Jazz for 34 points as the Suns secured a 114-106 victory at the Footprint Center on January 12, 2025.

Booker's stellar performance, including a sizzling 6-from-12 from beyond the arc, propelled the Suns to their second straight win and further solidified their position in the Western Conference play-in race.

It was a tough day at the office for Australian Boomers legend Patty Mills. The 36-year-old Jazz guard went just 1-from-5 from the field — 0-from-2 from three — had two rebounds and an assist but was -9 in 14 minutes.

The Suns set the tone early, racing out to a 65-54 halftime lead behind Booker's hot hand and Kevin Durant's steady contributions. Phoenix's dynamic duo proved too much for Utah's struggling defence to handle, as they combined for 59 points. Durant finished with 25 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

Utah's Collin Sexton had 20 points and Lauri Markkanen's 24.

For the Jazz, they've lost three straight and are now 9-28 while the Suns moved to 18-19.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Minnesota Timberwolves

Australian forward Joe Ingles was a DNP-coach's decision in the Timberwolves 127-125 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Minnesota fell to 20-18 while the surging Grizz moved to 25-14, 10-9 on the road.

Miami Heat @ Portland Trail Blazers

Australian centre Duop Reath logged 16 minutes in the Trail Blazers 119-98 loss to the visiting Miami Heat.

Reath went 1-from-6 from the field, scored three points, three rebounds and an assist.

Portland is struggling in the standings, they are 13-25 and 8-9 at home.

Houston Rockets @ Atlanta Hawks (Postponed)

Australians Dyson Daniels and Jock Landale missed an opportunity to play against each other as Atlanta postponed their January 12, 2025 clash against the Houston Rockets because of "severe weather and hazardous icy conditions" in the Georgia capital.

Meanwhile, Jack McVeigh is lighting it up for the Rockets G-League side, dropping 23 points, on five threes, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing five assists in a 132-113 win over the Iowa Wolves. He was +21.

Charlotte Hornets @ Los Angeles Clippers (Postponed)

Australian guard Josh Green game for the Charlotte Hornets against the Los Angeles Clippers was also postponed because of wildfires in Los Angeles.
