Gangurrus named for Chengdu stop of 2025 FIBA 3x3 Women's

The Gangurrus women's squad taking home the gold medals in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup earlier this year.

The Gangurrus line-up to represent Australia at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series has been announced.

Basketball Australia has announced the Gangurrus line-up to represent Australia at the sixth edition of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, taking place in Chengdu, China from 2–3 May.

Established in 2019, the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series is the number one event on the 3x3 women's professional circuit. The 2025 season will tip off in Chengdu and will travel through major cities across Asia, North America and Europe before concluding in September.

In Pool A, Australia is set to open their campaign against the Netherlands, followed by a match-up with Takasaki (Japan).

Leading the Australian charge is Miela Sowah, who returns to the squad after helping the Gangurrus claim gold at the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.

Joining her is Hannah Hank, who made her mark at the 2025 Champions Cup 3x3 in Bangkok and is set to continue her strong form in Chengdu.

The squad also welcomes two exciting debutants, Lara McSpadden and Alex Fowler.

Fowler, a former Australian junior representative at the 2018 FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup, is eager to make her mark at the senior level.

“It’s really cool to look back and see how far 3x3 has come since then. There wasn’t much exposure or tournaments for 3x3 globally, and you’ve seen the success within the Gangurrus internationally and how well they’ve done and the name they’ve made for themselves, so I’m honoured to be a part of it now.

“I’m excited to be able to now go back to Chengdu with a bit more experience and knowledge of the game and hopefully have some success with the girls. We’ve all played against each other, especially the last few years, so we all know each other’s games and strengths, so it’ll be good to be able to put it all together and find the chemistry over the next few days,” Fowler added.

The FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series 2025 will be available to watch via the FIBA 3x3 YouTube channel.
