Spirit's dynamic duo in Mildura masterpiece
Spirit go to 13-2 at the top of the WNBL25 ladder

League-leaders Bendigo Spirit cruised to an 80-62 win (Game Centre) against the Sydney Flames in Round 11 of WNBL25 at the Mildura Sporting Precinct on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
The Spirit's dynamic duo of Sami Whitcomb and Veronica Burton led the charge, each dropped 18 points.
From the opening tip, Bendigo set the tone, racing to a 28-21 lead in the first quarter. The Spirit's offensive onslaught continued throughout, with their lead ballooning to as much as 23 points.
Sydney struggled to find answers, as Bendigo's swarming defence held the Flames to just 35% shooting from the field.
Bendigo shot an impressive 47% from the field, including a solid 34% from beyond the arc. Their control of the glass was evident, out-rebounding Sydney 47-36, with Kelsey Griffin leading the way with nine rebounds.
Statistically, the Spirit's balanced attack was too much for the Flames.
Five players scored in double figures, with Whitcomb and Burton's 18 points complemented by 12 points each from Griffin and Casey Samuels. The team's 16 assists highlighted their unselfish play, with Burton dishing out a game-high six assists to go along with her scoring output.
Sami Whitcomb's performance was particularly noteworthy. The veteran guard's 18 points came on an efficient 8-of-17 shooting, including a crucial three-pointer. Her leadership and scoring touch were instrumental in maintaining Bendigo's lead throughout the contest.
Bendigo solidified its position at the top of the ladder at 13-2 while the Flames dropped them to 5-8 in fourth.
