Ballarat's Georgia Amoore is almost certain to go in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft

  • The WNBA Draft is April 14, 2025
  • Georgia Amoore's stocks rose considerably in her 2024-25 season with the Kentucky Wildcats
  • Amoore is vying to become the 14th Aussies in the WNBA

Australian point guard Georgia Amoore's All-American season at Kentucky in NCAAW Division 1 has skyrocketed her 2025 WNBA Draft projections.

The 24-year-old is projected to go to the Connecticut Sun via New York Liberty with pick seven, the Sun via the Fever at pick eight or Chicago Sky with pick 10.

ESPN writes: "Amoore isn't big size-wise, but her heart and basketball IQ are huge. She led Virginia Tech to its first Final Four in 2023. This year, she followed former Hokies coach Kenny Brooks and transferred to Kentucky. Amoore had a tough finish for her career, missing a game-winning shot in the second round against Kansas State on Sunday. But look at the entirety of her season: She averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists while playing an SEC-high 36.7 minutes per game. Veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot, 36, is back in Chicago and the Sky might see her as a great mentor for Amoore."

Amoore was named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and The Sporting News.

Amoore's 2024-25 season has been defined by statistical excellence across multiple categories. Her all-around performance shows a player at the peak of her abilities.

In 29 games, Amoore has posted career-high averages in five key categories:

  • 19.1 points per game
  • 42.5% field goal percentage
  • 6.9 assists per game
  • 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio
  • 1.0 steals per game

"At a time when the passion and excitement surrounding the WNBA has never been higher, we continue to focus on creating elevated events that WNBA fans won’t want to miss," said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

"The tremendous fan engagement we enjoyed at draft last year was a precursor to a season in which we ultimately set records for viewership, attendance, digital consumption and merchandise sales.

"Now, on the heels of an interesting free agency period and with draft serving as the official start to the upcoming WNBA season, we look forward to welcoming in a new set of WNBA rookies in a memorable way."
