Just Do It: Complete history of Aussies at the Nike Hoop Summit

Some of the Aussies who have played at the Nike Hoop Summit.

See how Australian talents have fared at the junior showcase event since 1997.

  • The Nike Hoop Summit is an international basketball All-Star game, which started in 1995
  • World has only beat USA four times since 1997, when the first Australian competed
  • Josh Green and Matt Nielson are the only Aussies to feature at the event twice

The eyes of the basketball world turned to Portland two weeks ago as the best junior prospects battled in the Nike Hoop Summit.

Australia’s Lara Somfai and Saffron Shiels competed in a losing effort to Team USA, with Dash Daniels on the men’s side not playing due to injury despite being selected.

Australia has had a presence at the event since 1997, with future Boomers captain Matt Neilsen starting for the World select team. He would be the first of two Aussies to play in back-to-back years as Olympic bronze medallist Josh Green played in both 2018 and 2019.

Names such as Patty Mills, Dante Exum and Ben Simmons have graced the Hoop Summit court in previous years, plying their trade ahead of their successful NBA careers.

Here we have a look at every Australian to play in the Nike Hoop Summit from 1997 to now.
