Pure scorer Motum passes 3000 points in Japan
Shiga Lakes star Brock Motum passes scoring milestone in the Japanese league.
- Brock Motum passed 2000 points in the B1 League and 3000 in total in Japan
- He leads the B1 in scoring at 21.2 points per game
- Motum said he was "open" to finishing his career in the NBL
There's one thing in particular that goes hand-in-hand with the name Brock Motum. Scoring.
It's something the 6'10" dynamic forward has been able to do his whole career, stretching back to his college days at Washington State University.
And it's that ability that has led him to pass two milestones in Japan, recently passing 2000 points in the B1 League and also 3000 in total in the country after his Shiga Lakes side also spent time in the B2.
Motum has been a star for Shiga Lakes side, which sits at the bottom of the B1 standings, averaging 21.2 points to lead the league in scoring.
Having recently spoken to Basketball.com.au in an exclusive interview about his basketball journey, the 34-year-old stopped by once again to talk about the milestone.
"2000 points in under two seasons in B1 and 3000 points overall is a cool feat," the Brisbane product said.
"I am just happy to still be playing my game at a good level and it gives me motivation to continue to work and get better.
"Being an import and a main scorer gives me a different look every game with what other teams' defensive schemes are to stop me, so it’s a great challenge each weekend to try and continue to score."
Asked what the next goal is, Motum kept it simple.
"4000 points then onto 5000," he said.
Motum's history is full of scoring achievements, having the PAC 12 Conference in scoring back-to-back years with Washington State.
In his interview with Basketball.com.au, the former Adelaide 36er said moving to the Japanese league suited his game more than the style in Europe.
“So, I've always been like scoring inclined, I guess and now the Japanese style and the Asian style of play, I think suits my game a lot more than the European (style) did, so I guess in hindsight I probably would have come to Japan a couple of years earlier," he said.
