Josh Giddey led the Chicago Bulls to a win over the Lakers with a historic state line.

  • Josh Giddey was two steals away from a quadruple-double in the 146-115 win over the LA Lakers
  • He is the only player ever in NBA history to put up that stat line
  • Giddey is the 10th player in NBA history to have a game with 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, 15+ assists and 5+ steals

Josh Giddey has put up the best stat line of his career, going within two steals of a quadruple-double to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 146-115 win over Western Conference heavyweights the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

Giddey shone when the lights were brightest in front of the celebrity-filled crowd that is Crypto.com Arena, recording 15 points, 10 rebounds, 17 assists and eight steals as the Bulls spoiled the return of LeBron James to the Lakers lineup with a 31-point victory.

The 22-year-old, who has been in red-hot form since Chicago traded Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings, is the only player in NBA history with that stat line and became the 10th player ever to have a game with 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, 15+ assists and more than five steals.

Who are the other legends on that list? Only players like Chris Paul, who has done it three times, James Harden (twice), LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd, Kevin Johnson, Michael Ray Richardson and Fat Lever.

Giddey was dominant, alongside backcourt partner Coby White (36 points) and rookie Matas Buzelis (31 points), recording a plus-minus of +22 while only having two turnovers in 33 minutes and going 1-from-2 from beyond the arc as the Bulls exploded with an 81-53 second half against the Lakers.

But he also took the challenge of guarding Lakers superstar Luka Doncic on the defensive end and impressed coach Billy Donovan.

"Josh is one of those guys that can affect the game in a lot of different ways," Donovan said in the post-match press conference.

"I thought he had some plays early in the game where he got to the rim and just didn't finish great and he finished a little bit better as the half closed.

"But it was the offensive rebounds, the deflections, the loose balls, getting us some extra possessions, then he started to finish at the basket, he was getting guys shots.

"I give him credit, I think it probably took him a little bit of time to get his rhythm back with the ankle (injury) but he's got really good endurance and stamina and he just impacts the game in a lot of different ways.

"From a guard's standpoint, to be able to rebound the way he does really helps us, it helps us in transition and he helps us on the offensive glass."

Many experts, including ESPN's Brian Windhorst, believe Giddey is on track to become a $30 million player when he heads into unrestricted free agency after this season.
