The Perth Lynx overwhelmed the Townsville Fire 106-80 in a one-sided WNBL Round Five clash (Game Centre) at Bendat Basketball Centre, Perth, on Wednesday November 27, 2024 — extending their winning streak to three games.
Perth (5-1) are second on the ladder behind the unbeaten Bendigo Spirit (6-0), while the Townsville missed the opportunity to stay above .500. The Fire is 3-3 and sitting in third with a near identical for / against at 457-456.
The Lynx were ON FIRE. They shot 16 from 23 from behind the arc, 23 from 40 from two and 12-14 from the line.
It was a four-point game at the end of the first 21-17 but the Lynx busted it open in the second quarter, scoring 33-points on a blistering 70% from the field, including 75% from the three point line to lead 54-40. But, seriously, if that wasn't enough they didn't miss from three (5 for 5) in the third, scoring 31 points on nine assists.
The Fire did outscore Perth in the fourth (23-21) but it was already over.
Sowah spearheads Lynx offensive onslaught
Miela Sowah put on a shooting clinic for the Lynx, pouring in 20 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting to go along with five assists and four rebounds in 29 minutes. She was perfect from the free-throw line, nailing all eight of her attempts.
Six Lynx players scores in double figures. Anneli Maley stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds and 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, while Teige Morrell also added 14 points.
Perth shot a blistering 61.9% from the field and 69.6% from three-point range, overwhelming Townsville's defense with their crisp ball movement and outside shooting. The Lynx dished out 25 assists as a team, with Alex Ciabattoni leading the way with six dimes.
Fire extinguished despite Froling's efforts
Alicia Froling battled valiantly for the Fire, recording a game-high 22 points along with six rebounds and four assists. However, she received little support as Townsville struggled to keep pace with Perth's high-octane offense.
The loss drops Townsville's record to 3-3 on the season, while Perth improves to 5-1 and solidifies their position near the top of the NBL Women's standings.
The Lynx will look to extend their winning streak when they travel to Melbourne to take on the (2-3) Southside Flyers (Game Centre) on Sunday, December 1, 2024, while the Fire aim to get above .500 against the (1-4) Adelaide Lightning (Game Centre) on Saturday, November 29, 2024.
