NBL1 West Round 3 on April 14, 2025:

  • East Perth claims 87-79 victory against Mandurah behind Cubilo's 24-point performance
  • Rockingham secures 82-74 win against Warwick despite Barr's 30-point double-double
  • Goldfields dominates South West Slammers 91-66 with Gilday's explosive 33 points

East Perth @ Mandurah

East Perth Eagles secured an 87-79 victory against Mandurah Magic at Mandurah Aquatic & Recreation Centre with Abby Cubillo delivering an outstanding performance with 24 points and seven assists.

Madison Torresin also contributed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

The Eagles established control early, building a 14-point lead at one stage and never trailing during the final three quarters. East Perth's efficient offense shot 50 percent from the field and dominated inside with 50 points in the paint. Mandurah's McKenna Dale matched Cubillo with 24 points and seven assists, but the Magic struggled from the field, shooting just 37.7 percent despite Claire Jacobs adding 14 points.

Rockingham @ Warwick

Rockingham Flames defeated Warwick Senators 82-74 at Warwick Stadium as Alexandra Sharp posting a dominant double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Flames.

Sharp's teammate Emily Steven added 22 points including five three-pointers.

This back-and-forth contest featured 13 lead changes before Rockingham pulled away late. The Flames' defence disrupted Warwick throughout, forcing 19 turnovers and converting them into 15 points. Despite Stacey Barr's stellar effort of 30 points, 10 rebounds and six steals for the Senators, Rockingham's 55.3 percent shooting from two-point range and balanced scoring proved decisive, with three players reaching double figures.

Eastern Suns @ Willetton

Willetton Tigers claimed a 76-56 victory against Eastern Suns at Ray Owen Sports Centre. Ajulu Thatha led the Tigers with 20 points and five steals, while Zitina Aokuso delivered an exceptional all-round performance with 19 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals.

The Tigers controlled the game with their defence, forcing 22 turnovers and converting them into 17 points. Willetton's frontcourt dominated with Aokuso orchestrating the offense brilliantly.

For the Eastern Suns, Olivia Berry scored a team-high 18 points, and Karly Murphy secured a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds, but Eastern Suns' dismal 7.7 percent shooting from three-point range (1-of-13) proved costly.

Cockburn @ Joondalup

Cockburn Cougars dominated Joondalup Wolves 102-57 at Wally Hagan Stadium as Sarah Mortensen posted a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Stephanie Gorman added 22 points including six three-pointers for the Cougars.

The Cougars' defence suffocated Joondalup, forcing 33 turnovers which they converted into 26 points. Cockburn also dominated the glass with a 61-38 rebounding advantage, including 29 offensive boards that led to 26 second-chance points. Jhazmin Joson led the Wolves with 18 points, but Joondalup's offense struggled throughout, shooting just 27.6 percent from the field.

Goldfields @ SW Slammers

Goldfields Giants defeated South West Slammers 91-66 at Niels Hansen Basketball Stadium. Nici Gilday detonated for 33 points and eight assists, while Rachel Pettit added 16 points, hitting four three-pointers for the Giants.

The Giants' perimeter shooting was outstanding, connecting on 15-of-38 (39.5 percent) from beyond the arc compared to the Slammers' 4-of-18 (22.2 percent). Goldfields' defence forced 22 turnovers and turned them into 16 points. Mykea Gray led the Slammers with 19 points and five assists, while Nyidier Riak added 12 points, but they couldn't match Goldfields' offensive firepower.

Cockburn @ Joondalup

Cockburn Cougars demolished Joondalup Wolves 102-57 at Wally Hagan Stadium with Sarah Mortensen delivering a standout double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds in just 20 minutes, while Stephanie Gorman drained six three-pointers en route to 22 points.

The Cougars were on fire from the opening tip, forcing 33 turnovers and converting them into 26 points. Daniel Raber also recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds as Cockburn dominated the boards 61-38. Jhazmin Joson led Joondalup with 18 points, but the Wolves shot a dismal 27.6% from the field and were overwhelmed by Cockburn's relentless pressure.

Goldfields @ SW Slammers

Goldfields Giants defeated South West Slammers 91-66 at Niels Hansen Basketball Stadium and Nici Gilday was unstoppable with 33 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists, while Rachel Pettit added 16 points including four three-pointers.

The Giants shot an impressive 39.5% from three-point range, connecting on 15 triples compared to just 4 for the Slammers. Mykea Gray led SW with 19 points but struggled with efficiency, as Goldfields' defence forced 22 turnovers. Chloe Zorzi contributed 11 points and 5 steals for the Giants, who pulled away in the third quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 27 points.

Eastern Suns @ Perry Lakes

Perry Lakes secured a hard-fought 72-58 victory against Eastern Suns at Bendat Basketball Centre despite an exceptional performance from Eastern's Karly Murphy. Murphy delivered a massive 40-point, 25-rebound double-double, accounting for nearly 70 percent of her team's scoring output.

Amy Jacobs led Perry Lakes with 23 points, including five triples, while Emilie Beggs added 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The difference came from three-point range, where Perry Lakes shot a solid 31.6% compared to Eastern's dismal 9.1%. The Hawks' balanced attack and superior ball movement (20 assists to 5) ultimately overcame Murphy's heroic effort, as Perry Lakes gradually pulled away in the second half after 12 lead changes in a competitive contest.

Lakeside @ Mandurah

Mandurah edged out Lakeside 78-73 in a thrilling contest at Lakeside Recreation Centre that featured 25 lead changes. McKenna Dale was outstanding for Mandurah with 24 points on efficient 58.8% shooting, while Claire Jacobs added 23 points including five three-pointers.

Teige Morrell led Lakeside with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, shooting an impressive 61.5% from the field. Oceane Kounkou contributed 16 points and five steals in the losing effort. The game remained tight throughout, but Mandurah's advantage on the boards (47-40) and superior shooting efficiency proved decisive in a contest that saw neither team lead by more than 10 points. Both squads demonstrated remarkable ball security, with Lakeside forcing 20 turnovers while committing 18 of their own.
