Hall's triple-double watch leads Spiders to victory
NBL1 East Round 2 on April 4, 2025: O'Hehir and Perkins star for Norths, Lupfer's run continues.

One of the brightest young prospects in Australia in 17-year-old point guard Jessie May Hall has continued to show fans around the country, the hype surrounding her is real after almost recording a giant triple-double to lead the Hornsby KuRinGai Spiders to a 75-62 win over the Bankstown Bruins at The BrickPit.
Hall, who is coming off back-to-back national championships at the under-20s and under-18s level, had 29 points, 10 steals and seven assists for the Spiders in the 13-point victory.
Her teammate, Keira Hudson added 23 points including five three-pointers.
The game was a turnover nightmare for Bankstown, who committed 34 turnovers that Hornsby converted into 22 points.
Despite Jada Rice's dominant double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks) for Bankstown, the Bruins couldn't overcome Hornsby's defensive pressure. The contest featured 16 lead changes before Hornsby pulled away in the final quarter for a comfortable win.
Norths Bears @ Manly Warringah
The Norths Bears secured a hard-fought 77-74 victory against Manly Warringah at Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre in a thrilling NBL1 East women's season opener. Madeleine O'Hehir delivered a stellar performance with 21 points including five-from-11 from beyond the arc, while Ruby Perkins recorded an impressive double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. For Manly, Taylor Wurtz was outstanding with 29 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
Despite trailing by as much as 18 points and being on the back foot for most of the game, the Bears mounted an exceptional comeback, led by Carla Pitman's all-round contribution of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Manly, who spent over 41 minutes in the lead, struggled to maintain their advantage in the closing stages as Norths' resilience and teamwork ultimately proved decisive in a contest that featured 11 lead changes.
Hills @ Sutherland
Hills secured an impressive 87-73 victory against Sutherland at Hills Basketball Stadium in a dominant display. Hannah Griffin was exceptional with 22 points including six-from-10 from three-point range, while Jade Kirisome contributed an efficient 21 points, shooting 64 percent from the field with three steals.
The contest was particularly notable for Ella Gale's dominant double-double performance, as she pulled down 21 rebounds to go with her 15 points. Sutherland's Aliza Fabbro led her team with 21 points and five assists, but Hills' superior shooting efficiency (42 percent compared to Sutherland's 31 percent) and strong rebounding effort ultimately sealed the 14-point win.
Newcastle @ Central Coast
Newcastle dominated Central Coast 71-47 at Breakers Indoor Sports Stadium in a commanding NBL1 East women's opener. Nicole Munger recorded an impressive double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Meg Jefferson added another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, including seven offensive boards.
The Hunters were utterly dominant on the glass, outrebounding Central Coast 60-41, and their defense held the Crusaders to a dismal 25 percent shooting from the field. Leilani Mitchell led Central Coast with 17 points, but the Crusaders struggled throughout, failing to overcome Newcastle's 33-point lead. Kate Kingham added 11 points with three triples for Newcastle as they controlled the contest from start to finish.
Albury Wodonga @ Maitland
Albury Wodonga secured a thrilling 93-82 road victory against Maitland at Maitland Federation Centre. Caitlyn Jones was simply unstoppable, pouring in 38 points on excellent 53 percent shooting while adding four assists. Riley Lupfer contributed 23 points including six three-pointers in the impressive win.
Maitland's Sydney Hunter led her team with 25 points, while Shakera Reilly and Alexis Plater each added 16 points in the losing effort. Despite the relatively close final score, Albury Wodonga led for over 29 minutes and had their lead reach as high as 15 points. The Bandits shot an efficient 47 percent from the field compared to Maitland's 36 percent, creating the difference in an entertaining, high-scoring affair.
Canberra @ Inner West
Canberra defeated Inner West 97-68 at Belconnen Basketball Stadium in a dominant display. Carlie Smith recorded an exceptional double-double with 27 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals, and five assists in a near triple-double performance. Abby Solway added 17 points while Mikala Williams contributed 15 points for the victors.
Inner West struggled to contain Canberra's offense, which shot at 47 percent from the field including an impressive 10-from-21 from three-point range. Mizuki Wakamatsu led Inner West with 23 points, while Tahlia Tupaea recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Canberra led by as many as 29 points and dominated the rebounding battle 54-40 in the comprehensive victory.
Sydney @ Illawarra
Sydney defeated Illawarra 79-56 at Comets Stadium in a comprehensive road victory. Abigail Curtin delivered a dominant double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds on efficient 52 percent shooting from the field. Piper Anderson added 16 points including three three-pointers, while blocking three shots in an impressive all-round display.
Illawarra struggled offensively throughout, shooting a lacklustre 26 percent from the field and an even more disappointing 14 percent from beyond the arc. Ella Dent led the Hawks with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Ella Collins added 12 points off the bench. Sydney's superior interior presence was evident as they outscored Illawarra 50-32 in the paint en route to the 23-point victory.
