Alex Toohey, a 6-foot-8 forward and top Australian basketball prospect, has signed with the Sydney Kings for the 2024-25 NBL season, setting his sights on the 2025 NBA Draft.
From NBA Global Academy to NBL Next Stars
Toohey's basketball journey has been marked by significant milestones. He honed his skills at the NBA Global Academy, a testament to his potential as a future professional player. In 2023, Toohey showcased his talents on the international stage by participating in the prestigious Nike Hoop Summit, an event that pits the world's best young players against each other.
Following his impressive showing at the Summit, Toohey joined the NBL Next Stars program for the NBL24 season. This program has been instrumental in developing young talent and providing a pathway to the NBA, with several success stories already emerging from its ranks.
"I'm excited to return to the Sydney Kings and continue my development in the NBL," Toohey said. "The Next Stars program has been an incredible opportunity, and I'm looking forward to taking my game to the next level this season."
Rising Star with International Experience
Toohey's potential has been evident for some time. In 2022, he was named MVP of the U20 Australian Junior Championships, showcasing his ability to dominate against his peers. His talents have not gone unnoticed at the national level either, as he has already represented Australia in FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, gaining valuable international experience.
