Australian women's wheelchair basketball team set for Netherlands, France AOZ warm-up

  • The Australian Gliders named a 10-player squad for their Italy tour (Sept 22–28, 2025)
  • The Gilders include WNWBL standouts Georgia Munro-Cook and Hannah Dodd, plus U.S. college athletes Isabel Martin and Laura Davoli.
  • The team will play seven games in Milan — four against France and three against powerhouse Netherlands

WNWBL leading scorer, All Star 5 selection and Grand Final MVP Georgia Munro-Cook and WNWBL League MVP runner-up Hannah Dodd lead an elite Australian Gliders to Italy later this month for a hectic seven-games-in seven-days warm-up for the Asia Oceania Championships (AOZ).

The Gliders, Australia's women's wheelchair basketball team, will play back-to-back Paralympic gold medallists Netherlands and France at the Australian Institute of Sport’s European Training Centre.

Head coach Craig Campbell said: "We’re excited by this group and the opportunity to play at a high standard in Italy.

"The group is connected and focused after our training camp in Melbourne in July, and the confidence from four of our Gliders winning bronze at the 3x3 World Championships in South Africa last month has added to that momentum.

“Facing France and the Netherlands gives us exactly the type of games we need before AOZs."

University of Alabama's Isabel Martin and University of Texas at Arlington's Laura Davoli will compete in their first Gliders campaign since starting college in the US, while Taishar Ovens and Ebony Stevenson, who both won bronze at the 3x3 World Championships add depth and experience.

The Gliders play four times against France (September 23 to 26) and then three games against the Netherlands (September 27 and 28).

The Netherlands are Tokyo and Paris Paralympic gold medallists and won World Championships in Dubai in 2022 and Hamburg in 2018.

The Dutch national team is proven and the clearly one of the best teams in the world.

The AOZ Championships are in November and are World Championship qualifiers with the gold and silver medallists earning automatic entry into the 2026 World Championships in Ottawa. Third and fourth have the opportunity to qualify through a repechage.

“We know China and Japan will be tough opponents," Campbell added.

"So this tour is about sharpening our combinations and testing ourselves against elite competition."

The Gliders will land in Milan on Monday September 22, 2025 before playing seven games across seven days. The games, unfortunately, will not be live streamed.
