Dean drops 20 on Flames in WNBL blow-out
Adelaide's Japreece Dean lights up Flames for 20 in 24-point win
- Japreece Dean leads Adelaide with 20 points in commanding victory
- Sydney struggles with poor shooting, hitting just 27.4% from the field
- Adelaide's defense stifles Flames, allowing only 54 points
The Adelaide Lightning stormed to a convincing 78-54 win — their first of the season — against the Sydney Flames in Round Four of the WNBL on November 20, 2024, at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
The Lightning came in 0-3 while the Flames were trying to snap a two-game losing streak after winning their first game of the season.
But poor shooting destroyed any chance the Flames had on the road.
They gave up 19 points off turnovers and 19 points to four on the break.
Dean and Bourne Spark Lightning Offense
Adelaide's offense was firing on all cylinders, led by the dynamic duo of Japreece Dean and Isabelle Bourne. Dean poured in a game-high 20 points while dishing out four assists and pulled down six boards. Bourne complemented Dean's performance with an efficient 17-point outing.
The Lightning's balanced attack saw three players score in double figures, with Isobel Borlase contributing 14 points. Steph Talbot stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, eight rebounds, and a game-high six assists.
Flames Struggle to Find Their Rhythm
Sydney's offense sputtered, shooting a dismal 27.4% from the field and connecting on just 11.1% of their three-point attempts.
Mikaela Ruef was the only real bright spot for the Flames, recording a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Looking Ahead
The victory improves Adelaide's record to 1-3, the same as Sydney at 1-3.
Both teams will have a quick turnaround, with Adelaide set to face the Townsville Fire (Game Centre) in Townsville on November 23, while Sydney — staying on the road —will look to bounce back against the Perth Lynx (Game Centre) in Perth on November 24.
