NBL1 building solid reputation as NBL talent pipeline

  • 67 players from 2024 NBL1 season now in NBL25
  • Knox Raiders' Bowen and Machar win second straight National Title
  • NBL1 North leads with 24 players on NBL rosters

The NBL25 season is in full swing, with 67 players from the 2024 NBL1 season now featured across the 10 NBL teams in Australia and New Zealand, matching last season's total.

NBL1 Continues to Shine as Elite Pathway

The NBL1 has once again proven its worth as an elite pathway into the National Basketball League, providing a platform for emerging talent and seasoned veterans alike. Melbourne United's Kyle Bowen and Malith Machar have particularly stood out, helping lead the Knox Raiders to their second consecutive National Title – a feat that marks them as the first rostered NBL players to achieve this distinction.

Breaking down the numbers by conference, the NBL1 North leads the pack with 24 players currently on NBL rosters. The South follows closely with 22 players, while Central, West, and East conferences contribute nine, sic, and five players respectively.

Team-by-Team Breakdown

Adelaide 36ers have embraced the NBL1 talent pool, featuring 10 players from various teams such as the South Adelaide Panthers and Sturt Sabres. Notable additions include Jason Cadee from the Gold Coast Rollers and Sunday Dech from the East Perth Eagles.

Brisbane Bullets have also tapped into the NBL1 resource, with nine players including Isaac White from the Mackay Meteors and Mitch Norton from the Southern Districts Spartans.

The Cairns Taipans roster boasts 8 NBL1 players, with Kyle Adnam from the Kilsyth Cobras and Dillon Stith from the Casey Cavaliers among their ranks.

Emerging Talent and Veteran Experience

The influx of NBL1 talent into the NBL25 season brings a mix of fresh faces and experienced players. This blend is evident in teams such as the Tasmania JackJumpers, who have added 10 NBL1 players to their roster, including Anthony Drmic from West Adelaide Bearcats and Will Magnay from Gold Coast Rollers.

The Sydney Kings, while having fewer NBL1 additions with four players, have made strategic selections including Shaun Bruce from Logan Thunder and Kouat Noi from Darwin Salties.

As the season progresses, these players will have the opportunity to prove their worth at the highest level of Australian basketball. The success of NBL1 products in previous seasons suggests that many of these 67 players could become key contributors to their respective teams. Their journeys from regional competitions to the NBL underscore the strength of Australia's basketball development pathway and promise an exciting season ahead.
